CHEER! CHEER! FOR OLE’ DARKO HIGH! WE’VE GOT THE SPIRIT TO DO OR DIE!
WARRIORS RIDE AGAIN
On Friday and Saturday, October 1st and 2nd, members of the Anadarko High School Classes of 1959, 1960 and 1961 gathered for a reunion in Oklahoma City. There were a few from other classes as well, spouses, family members, other guests.
Friday afternoon and evening were spent in the Hospitality Suite sharing old memories, elaborating on things that may or may not have happened, making up new stories – you know how that goes.
A sumptuous breakfast was provided by the host hotel, the Embassy Suites, and we again gathered around to share old memories, elaborate on things that may or may not have happened, make up new stories – you know how that goes. Already said that, but it bears repeating. At our age something that happened two days ago could very well be a new story today.
Back to the hospitality suite, or exploring Oklahoma City, whatever. There were various items that had been donated for a silent auction. Don't remember the exact amount those brought in; however, I think it was almost $2000 that will be donated to an Anadarko entity, possibly the library for book purchases.
We broke for the evening banquet, where around 100 gathered for a great buffet style dinner. The hotel outdid itself!
Before, during and after the presentations, a continuing montage of photographs was shown depicting AHS people and scenes, some of them dating back to our elementary school days. Were we ever that young?
At the front of the banquet hall was a ten-foot beaded Comanche war lance. Since we were, and are, The Warriors, that lance represented our Native American heritage . We will always be The Warriors!. We proudly sang the Warrior fight song, led by young ladies who cheered on the Warriors.
Several door prizes were given in various categories.
One of those was to the couple who had been married the longest. The couple that won have been married 63 years and three months, barely beating out another couple at 63 years two months. CONGRATULATIONS!
The prize for the person who had traveled the furthest went to a man from California, , beating out some from Montana by a few hundred miles.
The prize for the most kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids went to a classmate from the Class of '59, who said he got married when he was three.
The highlight of the evening was the award to the prettiest girl ever to walk the halls of AHS. In a close competition, the first place prize went to 53 young ladies. There were no second place prizes. Two ladies from Tulsa protested the decision, stating long and loud that the voting was rigged and that the judge had been bribed. But then, you now how those ladies from Tulsa are...
Rather than face the wrath of those two, the judge grabbed his bribe, uh, er, his check and skedaddled for the Texas Hill Country.
All too soon, it was time to say our farewells and head back to California, Montana, Colorado, Texas, Verden and other far corners of our nation.
If you weren't there, you missed a good one. But we'll see ya next time!

Instant Messenger: You probably have noticed that there is an Instant Messenger tool when you access our website, located at the bottom right of your screen. You can close it, and you can minimize it. But, better yet, when you see another of your classmates online that you would like to say "HI" to, just click their name and start sending a text chat message to them. You can go further with Instant Messaging if you wish, by inviting them to the Private Live Chat function. In Private Live Chat, you can use your Webcam if you have one, and you can even "talk" to each other if you have a microphone and speakers! There are even Video Sharing Tools where you could share such things as YouTube videos. It is FUN, FUN, FUN!! The only downside is that if you are on a webcam, then you really should be changed from your pajamas, hair combed, and look nice..........LOL.
If you have any questions about Instant Messaging, or for that matter anything about the website, send me a message from the Message Center under the Member Functions section.
Message Center: If you want to send a personal message to any registered classmate, use the Message Center. It is the third menu item under Member Functions.
